GM has done something they have had yet to make me do with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , make me actually start planning on getting a new vehicle.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Now as a disclaimer, I am a Chevy guy through and through, my parents met working at a GM dealership even. I don't have the redneck bias of "If its not Chevy, its a mechanical turd" but still I lean towards the bow-tie more than most. Oppo has opened my eyes to their everything having their good and bad, but " !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! " still runs through these veins.

First off as many of you know I currently drive a 2003 "Sunburst Yellow" Sonoma SLS 4x4. I like having the small truck for time I spend in the mountains and the slight break I get at the pump. I know these new trucks are bigger than my Sonoma but they are at least small than a Silverado. The 4.3L v6 Vortec my truck has now has always been a gas pig, my mom's Avalanche gets the same MPG as the 'noma! The new Cayonado's look like they will have better economy than the god awful fuel economy the straight five last gen truck got.

I need to have a four door truck. My truck now is the 3-door type that allows very little access to the area behind the buckets. It makes the space basically useless except for holding groceries. The new trucks will likely have backseats that only good for !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but its still better than what I have. The interior looks great to me, even though some people are saying it looks like a child designed it. Compared to my truck that still has a tape deck, its a hell of lot better. I can't decide on Canyon or Colorado for exterior right now, but they actually look different from each other unlike the years of Sonoma/S10.

Now the biggest selling point for me is that diesel. I know its only available in the second year of production and I may even wait for the third year to let them iron out the kinks (My dad calls this the Fiero process). I hope this "Duramax" is as good as the big one they already have because its usually a treat to work on and own.

Well I have started a new job with decent pay so I will be putting away a good bit of cash to own one of these in 2016 or 2017. I rarely plan past what I am doing after I finish this sentence so that is a big deal for me. Well, your thoughts Oppo?

I'm seriously digging on the quad cab 2.8 diesel z71 variant. thing is, even with my crappy mileage (12 winter, 13 summer) I paid so little for my truck that buying a new more fuel efficient one doesn't make a ton of sense. and given that its the only light duty diesel truck (smaller than 1/2 ton) its value is going to be solid for YEARS to come.

The second they put a turbo diesel 6 in it I'd consider one. I never got why the American manufactures don't believe in putting diesels in their smaller trucks, the Eco-diesel in the ram is making me look really hard at it.

They never seem to want to put diesel in anything, I mean it has been changing over the last while as mpg becomes important but still they seem so hesitant.

My truck gets about 18mpg so I'm sure it will be an upgrade. My truck is getting older and I can feel it starting to slip so it it can see it needing to be replaced in the next few years. I really like the z71 too, scared to see the price tag though.

I have a 2000 S10 with the 4.3 as well so I feel your pain, reliable as hell. Good little trucks but the new ones look like a Mercedes S class inside compared to our cheap ass interiors, glad you're moving up in the world!

I don't think you're gonna see another I-6 diesel anywhere outside of the Ram's Cummins. They're all gonna be either I-4 TD or they're gonna jump to V-8 TD. The I-6 is just really hard to package. Even the Eco-diesel is a V6. Also, as far as I know GM does not have a V6 diesel in the cards at all. Like, for anything anywhere in the world.

I thought the diesel was the 2.8 VM 4 cylinder engine. No problem there, all the power and non of the added weight of a 6

Sonoma brother! I should of added a picture of my interior for the shock value. Thanks! Still hate salary jobs though.

expect mid 30's for the Z71 and another $2500-3000 for the diesel.

I'm incredibly torn. I want one of these so bad. It is perfect for everything that I want to do. DD and truck duty, and it looks great. If I were to get one of these I'd trade in my Sonic for it and use it as a DD. However, I love my Sonic. I've also got a truck already with my (currently decommissioned) F100.

I keep knowing I should have truck for, well, truck stuff and having a car to toss around all fun-like (autocross and such). Having 2 trucks? Maybe. But then again maybe its the Nascar rubbing off on me (there's a lot of trucks in the parking lot). But, then I can justify a kart even more. Either way I'll wait until the diesel comes out and my Sonic is pretty fully devalued from being new, then decide between one of these, an ATS-V, or whatever new thing comes out that makes me want it.

The shock value might have made people's eyes bleed! It's a bad interior, still great truck overall though. And I agree with the with the jobs, everyone should just be paid enough to afford the new Z06, then life would be good!

I am in a Sonoma Mazda2 set up now and its pretty great. Mazda2 keeps driving around the city costs down and the Sonoma hauls/tows when we need it. It also doesn't seem to have the ability to get stuck in winter. ATS-V make me barf rainbows, too bad I could never life with one in Canada with all the winter gravel and salt.

Yeah, the one thing the Sonic struggles in is snow, but I don't have snow tires for it. Moving to the southern US pretty much made that useless until I drive back home to NY. I'll probably get rims and summer tires this year, and then put snows on my stock rims and become the only person in NC to have a set of snow tires.

Its interesting how many of the American cars have really begun to look like Japanese and European cars. That is almost a Hilux, pretty close. The new Chevy cars look like Hondas, a bit of that BMW crease slab thing on the side. I guess it sells, they have to keep up sales. For a while the American mid level cars were horrible to look at and seemed to be all cheap plastic inside.

I'm in a similar boat as you OP. I'm dreamin' of a 3.6 extended cab 4x4 with a 6 speed (that part probably wont happen). Now I don't think I could ever bring myself to buying new, but a few years down the line I'll likely own one of these things.

Well you pretty much nailed it. I miss the muscle car days when people tried to make cars that look like the Americans.

I just can't bring myself to want a new truck, they are so flimsy now. I got my Land Cruisers and swapped in a newer Toyota diesel, they are pretty good on mileage considering and they will last forever, I won't but my son can roam the planet with confidence.

It looks like the options are mostly auto, which isn't great but still not the worst. I hate buying used but I will likely get a lease back after a few years. That is mostly why I put the 2015 that I likely won't get until 2016 or 2017

The Japanese and some Euro makers really developed some good plastics, my old Mercedes have plastic bits and the MB Tex but its still fine and looks great. The American cars had plastic that must have come from a toy manufacturer, I had to rent a few and it was just painted, a new car I rented was already scratched all over the placed you use the most.

I just want an _actual_ _compact_ pickup. something the size of an old datsun/toyo/subie brat/vw rabbit pickup.

2 door, 2 or 4wd but not lifted to the sky, not looking like a big rig. bed big enough to haul plywood or sheetrock _above_ the wheelwells with the tailgate down.

what I don't want is a "compact pickup" that is the same size as a 15 year old full size.

I wish I could afford a 1HD-FT or FTE in my truck. 25-30 grand here. Nope.

The only full size truck that interests me in the Ram since it's catered to buyers like me - uber comfortable and a rear coil suspension for maximum "ahhhs" on the road. While big trucks don't bother me (I have a CDL and drove 18 wheelers with oversized loads before), my 5'0" wife is intimidated by them.

The Colorado looks much better than the new Silverado I think and is appealing. Pricing will be a huge issue, I'd like to see it start below $20k ($17,500 ideal) and top-of-the-line models hitting $35k or so.

Here's to hoping Ford and Dodge consider bringing a small truck to the markets as well.

The Ram trucks have a similar price range as you have shown. They could make the Dakota a bit smaller. A new Ranger would be cool too.

Considering the Sierra gets 18/24 I would think 20/26 or better out of the diesel.

I feel you, since I drive 96 blazer with the 4.3 vortech and am pulling about 15-17mpg. The interior of this looks like a space shuttle compared to my SUV.

I'm seriously considering the diesel when it comes out for my next vehicle, same as you. Price is going to be a big factor for me though, so I'm really interested to see what it's going to cost for the diesel crew cab.

No one seems to be too enthused about the interior. I feel like the diesel crew cab will be the favourite for everyone, unless the base model is real cheap and can be used for a fleet truck.

These aren't even compact pick ups tho. They're in the mid-size class. And I hear you. The ranger is really the only one left in the compact market, and they stopped making those a few years back.
